The old non-functioning fountain with a diameter of 10 meters, is located in the Dommeldange area of Luxembourg City.
During the scanning process, some objects on the surface of the fountain's bottom (leaves, cables, metal pipes) could move when stepped on. Therefore, the fountain was divided into four equal parts, each scanned separately to avoid rescanning already captured areas. This ensured minimal changes to the geometry, resulting in truly accurate 3D scanning with highly detailed texture. The data from the scanner, transformed into a polygonal model, required editing to remove defects in geometry, and assembly errors from scan data, and to address problematic and unscanned parts of the object. In the processing of scanner data, for maximum detailing, the texture size was set at 16384x16384, allowing for clear capture of fine details in such a massive object.
